Sorry It Has Been Awhile!!

I want to apologize for not posting anything lately. Life has been so busy and with Thanksgiving thrown into the mix I have been extra busy. I have lots of pictures and things to post and I promise that I will do it soon. My goal is to do it this weekend. This is always a busy time of year and although I know this is not an excuse, I have just been tired! Ha! Can you believe it!? After teaching all day, I am exhausted! Anyways, we have been having a great time in school and I hope your kiddos have been telling you about all of the fun things we do each day. I am proud of all of them and how hard they work!  As always, thank you for everything you do and please let me know if you would like to help out at our Winter Party on Thursday, 12/15 either by coming in or by sending in supplies and/or snacks. Have a great night! I think I might try to put our Christmas tree up tonight. What are your plans?

Colors!

Here is a page from our poetry books we have been working on! After reading this poem and completing this page we then made a colors book! The boys and girls really enjoyed making the book! I love seeing their creativity :)

Working hard!

Making Words

Today we used the letters a, t, s, h, r, c to make words! This helped us to see that every word must have a vowel in it!(The vowel is red) We are really working on hearing those vowel sounds when we read and write! We also practiced changing the first letter in words to make new words! (such as changing the c in cat to an h to make hat)

SMART Trophy

Christian was the winner of the SMART trophy today for following directions and being a good listener in SMART!!! Way to go Christian!! :)

Punctuation!

We are talking about puncuation this week during our Writer's Workshop!! Please remind your child to use punctuation in their sentences when writing at home! (Along with finger spacing and a capital letter at the beginning)

Number Line 0-10

Today in math we used a number line to help us count! We also used the number line to help us fill in missing numbers. We have been working really hard on writing our numbers 0-10 correctly and we have been focusing on different ways to make numbers. Number sense is a big focus with the new Common Core Standards in Kindergarten.

We Love Recess :)

               Today was such a beautiful day outside!! We took full advantage of it at recess this morning!!



Poetry Books

We got to use our Poetry Books twice this week! (Tuesday and Thursday) The boys and girls did a great job writing their sight words and we practiced rhyming words and reading the poems as well! Our goal is to be able to write our own poems and maybe even songs!! Incase you missed my first post about our Poetry Books we used notebooks and the Sight Word Poetry Pages book to make them!

Firetruck Visit!

On Wednesday, the Smyrna Fire Department came to DYE to tell us all about fire safety! We got to walk around and look at the trucks and Ms. Mentzer even got to put on a firefighter suit!! (Thanks to my sweet class for volunteering me :)

Fall Rotations

The boys and girls had a great time on Monday during our Fall Rotations!! Here are a few pictures from when the boys and girls were playing a game in my room!
