Apples Apples Apples!!!

This week we talked about apples!!!! Wednesday was of course Johnny Appleseed's birthday so we spent the week learning all about apples!! This included learning about the apple life cycle, reading lots of apple books, tasting apples and making apple sauce!!
We started the week off by tasting red, green, and yellow apples. We then used Deanna Jump's idea I found last year to make a pictorial graph to show which apple we liked the best! (Granny Smith was the overall favorite :)

On Wednesday we talked about Johnny Appleseed and made our Johnny Appleseed hats!

The hats said "A pot on his head and the ground for his bed. Happy Birthday Johnny Appleseed!"

On Thursday we made our own applesauce and tasted various apple products so see which one we like the best!! We tasted; applesauce, apple pie and dried apples!
 The "Before"

 Adding a little sugar :)

 The "After"

We give it a "thumbs up!!"

On Friday we tasted Apple Cider and Apple Juice to decide which one we like better! We described the similarities and differences. If we didn't have a fire drill at this time we would have listed them on a chart as well :)

Here is another fun apple craft we did! We cut open an apple to see the STAR inside :) We then used the apple to make a stamp and included the fun poem!

Sorry for the side way pictures! I could not get them to change!! :(
I found this idea here :) I love Pinterest!!! :)

Thank you to all of my parents who sent in apples and/or apple products!!! I hope you all have a wonderful fall break!! :)

Fun Friday with Marshmallow Paint!

We have been working really hard each day to earn a piece to add to Mr. Potato Head! We earn pieces by working well together and following the rules of the classroom and school. Every time we get a compliment from another teacher or if I think the boys and girls are doing well as a class, we add a piece to put him together! When he gets put together we get to have Fun Friday!!! This week, our Fun Friday activity was Marshmallow Painting (since we are talking about the letter Mm). It was a lot of fun and the boys and girls were very creative with their paintings!

Who Lives In Your House Glyph

We have been spending the last few weeks talking about our families and getting to know each other. On Friday, we made our "Who Lives In Your House Glyph". The boys and girls did a great job with this and really enjoyed talking about their families and who lives with them! It was neat because later in the day we were doing painting and some of the students used certain colors like red because it reminded them of their mom or blue because of their dad. They understood the concept of the glyph and how you can "read" the pictures!

Eagle Stomp!

On Thursday we had lots of fun at the DYE Eagle Stomp!!! For those of you who do not know, the Eagle Stomp is our big fundraiser that we have each year! Our wonderful PTO works VERY hard to put all of this together! We always start with a fun run and then have activities such as; sno-cones, concession stand, face painting, inflatables and the pitch burst! Check out the pictures below to see all of the fun we had!! :)

Pictures And A Sorting Freebie!

For this week being a short week it sure was packed full of fun and learning! It always seems like the shorter weeks are the longest! We had a great time this week really focusing on our Literacy and Math Stations and rotations! I will be posting again soon on how I manage my groups. For now I just have a few pictures and a freebies to share with you!
The Crayon Box that Talked

We read The Crayon Box That Talked this week and talked about how everyone is different and how important it is to be kind to everyone. We also made our very own crayon box and I think it turned out pretty cute!!
The boys and girls had a great time drawing themselves and coloring their crayons their favorite color!

For one of my Literacy Stations this week the boys and girls used rainbow colors to make their names! They really enjoyed using the glue bottles and did a great job creating our new door display!

Now for a freebie!! We have been working on sorting this week in math so I created a few sorting pages to be used next week during our Math and Literacy Stations! Click here to get your copy!
I hope you have a great weekend!! I am enjoying the cooler weather!! :)
